White tops for Lion Sauces support plastic recycling

This is because the laser equipment used in the majority of recycling facilities finds it difficult or impossible to sort black plastic. The result is that black plastic is usually sent directly to landfill or incineration.

By switching the black caps to white on our 2.27 litre and 480g plastic sauce bottles, and the black plastic to red on our 5L and 10L buckets for our mayonnaise, we will enable a further 64,860kg of our plastic packaging to be recycled each year.

This initiative forms part of our wider review of the use of plastic packaging in our business. It's a review which is focused on the three Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle. How could we use less plastic, use more recycled plastic and make our packaging more recyclable?

Sarah Lesser-Moor, Brand Manager for Lion Sauces, explains:

"Plastic packaging offers many benefits - it allows food to be transported safely, and helps both to preserve food and cut waste. But the negative impact of single use plastic waste on wildlife and the natural environment is a key concern. We are keen to do what we can to make a difference."
