Our new 15-litre tubs of Prep ZT and Prep Ultra high performance frying oils now contain 11g less plastic each than their predecessors. This reduction has been achieved by redesigning the tub, and is part of a wider review of the use of plastic packaging in our business.
Olivia Kitching, Brand Manager for Prep, explains:
"We are part-way through a three-year plastic reduction initiative based on the 'Environmental Three Rs' - reduce, recycle and reuse. We are looking carefully for opportunities to reduce the quantity of plastic we use in our packaging, as well as how we can use more recycled material. We are also working on how we can make our packaging easier to recycle.
"It's great therefore to be able to share the news that, through innovative design, we have managed to reduce the quantity of plastic in our 15-litre tubs. Of course 11g per tub is a relatively modest amount but, when multiplied by our UK and European output, the overall plastic reduction will be significant. And of course, every contribution to the overall objective is important."
Plastic packaging offers many benefits to both food producers and operators. It allows food to be transported safely, and helps both to preserve food and cut waste. But the negative impact of single use plastic waste on wildlife and the natural environment is a key concern.
